Holiday Meal Game Plan

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail
If you fail to plan, you plan to fail

What is your strategy for getting through the big meals without going overboard and staying on track?  Fail to plan, plan to fail!  In other words, if you think you can just go with the flow you are very wrong.  The flow will be overeating and eating items that are meant to be enjoyed on occasion and in moderation.  I am guessing most of the flow will not be paying attention to any kind of moderation because it is the holidays.  But not you my friends, I know you are lifestyle changers not just quick fixers and will be taking the time to put together a strategy that will work for you.  Here are a few ideas to get you started.

  • Get Active- Plan on getting in some cardio the morning of and a little extra on the following day.
  • Water- Be sure to drink a full glass of water before sitting down for your meal.
  • Savor Each Bite- Eat slow; savor every bite giving extra time for your brain to get the message when you are full.
  • Healthy Substitutions-  Opt for healthier options wherever possible.
  • Fill Up On Veggies- Fill have half your plate with veggies, with limited sauces, and eat them first.  Then enjoy the other dishes in moderation.
  • 3 Bite Rule-  You can eat absolutely anything you want but if it is not normally on your meal plan then you can only have 3 bites to satisfy you.  Anything on your meal plan will still be kept to normal portions.

These are just a few ideas that you can mix and match to create a strategy just for you.  Remember to give thanks for all of the good things in your life, including the family and friends you will be spending time with.  Be sure to make them the focus of your day, not food.
